Police Rank and File - Chain of Command

The United States police rank model is generally quasimilitary in structure. Chief of police/police commissioner/ sheriff The actual title varies between the small towns and large metropolitan areas to counties . This individual is most often appointed by a mayor or city council. Assistant Chief/Assistant Commissioner/ Assistant Sheriff This position is usually only found within highly populated cities and/or counties. Deputy Chief/Deputy Commissioner/Deputy Superintendent/Chief Deputy/undersheriff: This rank serves as the first lieutenant to the Chief of Police or County Sheriff, often serving as a warden within a county jail. Inspector/commander: An inspector is another investigative officer, but outranks a captain. Most often the inspector oversees entire divisions of lower ranking detectives and officers within a precinct, district or borough. Colonel: The rank of colonel is most often used within state police agencies as their highest executive ranking officer . Major/deputy inspector The rank of major or deputy inspector is not present in all cities and departments. In cities where they do exist, they manage police stations. Captain: a captain may in charge of an entire division or an entire precinct. It is considered an upper level management position . Lieutenant: Managing several sergeants and their squads, lieutenants often oversee entire division within a department such as Homicide or Domestic Violence or lower divisions within larger cities. Sergeant: A sergeant is the first line of supervising ranks within a police department. He or she oversees a watch shift, a squad or area of a precinct. s. Detective/Inspector/Investigator The second lowest in police department ranking is the detective, which is an investigative specialist who visits crime scenes and interviews suspects and witnesses as well as testify in courts of law .

Police Marching Band - Special Services Unit

A Marching Band is a physical activity in which a group of instrumental musicians generally perform outdoors and incorporate some type of marching (and possibly onto other movements) with their musical performance. Instrumentation typically includes brass, woodwinds, and percussion instruments. Most marching bands use some kind of uniform (often of a military style) that include the school or organization's name or symbol, shakos, pith helmets, feather plumes, gloves, and sometimes gauntlets, sashes, and/or capes. Marching bands are generally categorized by function, size, age, and by the style of show they perform. In addition to traditional parade performances, many marching bands also perform field shows at special events like comp The marching band originated with travelling musicians who performed together at festivals and celebrations throughout the ancient world. It evolved and became more structured within the armies of the early city-states, becoming the basis for the military band, from which the modern marching band emerged.[1] As musicians became less important in directing the movement of troops on the battlefield, the bands moved into increasingly ceremonial roles - an intermediate stage which provided some of the instrumentation and music for marching bands was the modern brass band, which also evolved out of the military tradition.

Police SWAT Quick Reaction Team

A SWAT (special weapons and tactics)[1][2] team is an elite tactical unit in various national law enforcement departments. They are trained to perform high-risk operations that fall outside of the abilities of regular officers. SWAT team members' duties include: performing hostage rescues and counter-terrorism operations; serving high risk arrest and search warrants; subduing barricaded suspects; and engaging heavily-armed criminals. SWAT teams are often equipped with specialized firearms including submachine guns, assault rifles, breaching shotguns, riot control agents, stun grenades, and sniper rifles. They have specialized equipment including heavy body armor, ballistic shields, entry tools, armored vehicles, advanced night vision optics, and motion detectors for covertly determining the positions of hostages or hostage takers inside enclosed structures. The first SWAT team was established by inspector Daryl Gates in the Los Angeles Police Department in 1968. Since then, many American and Canadian police departments, especially in major cities and at the federal and state-levels of government, have established their own elite units under various names; these units, regardless of their official name, are referred to collectively as SWAT teams in colloquial usage.

The New York State Police Forensic Science Laboratory System provides all criminal justice agencies in New York State with state-of-the-art forensic analytical and investigative capabilities and expert testimony related to the investigation and resolution of criminal matters. Services are provided by expert personnel at the State Police Headquarters Laboratory in the Forensic Investigation Center, in Albany, or at the system's three Regional Laboratories: Newburgh, Port Crane and Olean. The ASCLD/LAB inspects crime laboratories internationally, and its accreditation holds for a five-year period. To be so awarded, laboratories must demonstrate that their management, operations, personnel procedures, equipment, physical plant and health and safety procedures have met, and will continue to meet, the established standards set forth by ASCLD/LAB. Staffing The Communications Center is under the direction of the Communications Center Manager, who reports directly to the Assistant Chief of Police of Administration. There is an Assistant Communications Center Manager and three Shift Supervisors. The Department has one Administrative Assistant. The Center is authorized 37 Dispatchers. Public Safety Dispatcher (I) is the entry level position for the Communications Division. When training, experience, and performance are met by a Public Safety Dispatcher (I), they have the opportunity to advance to a Public Safety Dispatcher (II) position and will assume additional duties as a Lead Dispatcher and a Communications Training Officer. Additional benefits are available to those who qualify and include the following items: shift differential, a certificate and/or bilingual pay. Responsibility Communications is a 24/7 operation. The Police National Training Institute (PNTI) has played a major role in the training of our country’s policemen. Its long history can be traced from the year 1905, four years after the Americans formally established the Philippine Constabulary for the purpose of enforcing the law and maintaining peace and order. The PNTI is envisioned to become the primary training ground for the professionally competent, morally upright and tecgnically proficient police officers capable of working in close partnership with a responsive community in the preservation of peace, protection of human rights and maintenance of law and order with the end in view of improving the quality of people's lives. To provide continuing training and human resource development programs for the uniformed personnel of the Philippine National Police so that they may possess the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values necessary in the exercise of their profession. Police academies exist in every state and at the federal level. Each state has an agency which certifies police academies and their programs. Most states have minimum physical and academic standards for cadets to achieve before they can enter an academy and graduate. There may be additional or higher standards required for later certification as a police officer. While some states allow open enrollment in police academies, many require cadets to be hired by a police department in order to attend. Departments and/or state certifying agencies may also require individuals to pass background checks, psychological evaluations, polygraph exams, drug screenings and qualify with a firearm and demonstrate driving skills, as conditions of employment/certification.
